  Encryption
  
  a method of protecting information as it moves from one computer to another. The information is encoded (by using a mathematical algorithm) before it is
  sent and decoded with a secret key when it is received thus making it unreadable to anyone who might intercept it. Only the persons sending and receiving the information have the key and this except those persons (your browser does it automatically).
